The Meetings of the Great Port-Vendres Tapestry Association.
Initially only 2 of us were embroidering and we had difficulty recruiting anyone else to help. In desperation, because we knew the tapestry would never be finished if we continued in this way, we plotted. We invited all our friends to come and watch us embroidering, telling them they could have a cup of tea and cakes if they did so. Once they joined us we showed them the simple stitches we were using. Then they were willing to give it a try. Gradually in this way they were enticed!

Au début, seulement 2 d'entre nous brodaient et nous avons eu du mal à recruter quelqu'un d'autre pour aider. En désespoir de cause, parce que nous savions que la tapisserie ne serait jamais terminée si nous continuions dans cette voie, nous avons réfléchi pour trouver une solution. Nous avons invité toutes nos amies à venir nous regarder broder, en leur disant qu'elles pouvaient prendre une tasse de thé et des gâteaux si elles le faisaient. Une fois qu'elles nous ont rejoints, nous leur avons montré les points simples que nous utilisions. Ensuite, elles étaient prêtes à essayer. Peu à peu de cette façon, elles ont été séduites!
Once they had started, each embroiderer would take their panel home, for their work to continue. We also established meetings every Wednesday afternoon, at our headquarters. We chatted, embroidered, discussed our designs and how to approach them, and the stitches and colours we were using. Then, at 4 o'clock we shared a cup of tea and cakes and biscuits, usually made by the members of the group.
They have told us:

“It makes you live in the moment when you focus on the materials; the hand and eye co-ordination.”
“There is a therapeutic aspect to it. Being creative, doing things with our hands, is so important to us as humans. People feel empowered by this.”

Une fois qu'elles avaient commencé, chaque brodeuse rapportait son panneau à la maison pour continuer son travail. Nous avons également organisé des réunions tous les mercredis après-midi, à notre siège. Nous avons bavardé, brodé, discuté de nos conceptions et de la manière de les aborder, ainsi que l'utilisation des points et des couleurs. Puis, à 16 heures, nous avons partagé une tasse de thé, des gâteaux et des biscuits, généralement préparés par les membres du groupe.
